Dallas and Hiram

Decks & Fences in Paulding County, GA

A uniform county. Two towns, built two years apart, on ground that differs by seventeen feet.

Paulding sits in a tight 57 to 58 minute band, 36.3 road miles to Dallas and 41.6 to Hiram.

4,190 owner-occupied homes, and almost no variation

Dallas and Hiram between them come to 7,777 homes and 4,190 owner-occupied households, and there's almost nothing to tell the two apart: same age of house, same ground, same drive for us.

2002 and 2004

Dallas went up in 2002 and Hiram in 2004. Houses that all reach their second decade at once mean the whole county hits the same maintenance moment together: boards that have taken twenty summers on frames that are usually still sound. Cleaning and sealing is the lighter fork here, and a new surface on the existing frame is the other.

Dallas and Hiram

Most of our Paulding work is in Dallas. Hiram is the smaller one, 1,186 owner-occupied homes, and it makes no odds to us: 41.6 road miles against Dallas at 36.3, so the two are close to interchangeable on our schedule. At 64.4 percent owner occupied Hiram is a little more settled than Dallas is.

227 feet and 244 feet

Hiram runs 227 feet of relief and Dallas 244, a difference of seventeen feet across an entire county. There's no steep end and no flat end here. That makes the retaining wall job unusually predictable: a single terrace turning a rolling back yard into a level one, which is the most useful thing most Paulding lots need.

Neither town has a lake

Neither Dallas nor Hiram has a named lake, pond or river inside its boundary. The reason to screen a porch in Paulding is the plain Georgia one: from May onward an open porch is decoration and a screened one is a room. Twelve named streams across the two towns is what we grade patios and walkways around, and that's a high count for a county this size.

A mid-sized town and a small one

Dallas is mid-sized and Hiram small, both platted in the same era. That gives our fence runs a consistent character across the county: subdivision lengths with occasional open lots, and gate counts that rarely surprise either of us. The detail for the county seat sits on our Dallas fence page.

57.6 and 64.4 percent owner occupied

Seven points separate the two towns, and nowhere else we work are two neighbors this alike. That consistency means we put up pergolas and patio covers evenly across Paulding instead of in one corner of it, which is the opposite of what happens in Cobb.

Dallas and Hiram on one run

Fire pits sit with the hardscape. The gallery carries finished jobs, the service areas page carries the rest of the counties, and if you would rather not call, ask us in writing.

Is Hiram served?

Yes, at 41.6 road miles. Dallas is 36.3, so the difference between the two barely registers on our schedule.

Twenty-year-old boards on a sound frame. Seal or replace?

If the boards are splitting at the ends and cupping, sealing is buying time. If they're just gray, a proper clean and seal will often get several more good years out of them.
