Rome and Lindale
Decks & Fences in Floyd County, GA
Floyd is old housing and hard drainage. Two rivers meet in Rome, and most of the decks out here were built with the houses.
Rome is 20.3 road miles out and Lindale 24.5, so Floyd County sits in a 33 to 41 minute band for us.
8,330 owner-occupied homes, and old ones
Floyd puts 18,498 homes inside our area, 8,330 of them owner occupied, and the houses are old: 1965 to 1974. Old houses are a different trade from new ones, and we work Floyd as the old one.
1965 to 1974, and what that does to a deck
Lindale houses are 1965 vintage and Rome 1974. A deck built with a house from that window isn't near the end of its service life, it's well past it, and the ones still standing are standing because somebody kept fixing them. That makes Floyd the county where we do the most full rebuilds, and the part that fails our first safety look most often is the railing and the stair.
Rome and Lindale
Most of our Floyd work is in Rome. Lindale is the smaller one, 961 owner-occupied homes, and we're out there just as readily: 24.5 road miles out, with housing that dates to 1965.
348 to 407 feet, and ridges either side of the river
Relief across Floyd runs 348 feet at Lindale to 407 feet at Rome. That's a narrow band by the standards of Bartow or Whitfield, and it describes a county of moderate ridges, not one of steep faces. The retaining walls we build here tend to be long and low, terracing a slope that runs the width of a yard.
Where the Coosa and the Oostanaula meet
Two rivers inside one town boundary is unique to Rome anywhere we work, and Lindale adds Paris Lake. Moving water plus still water across a county is the strongest case there's for screening a porch instead of leaving it open. Silver Creek, Prentis Branch, Beech Creek and Big Dry Creek are the lines that decide how we have to grade a patio or a walkway.
One city, one community
Floyd is the only county we cover where a big city sits alongside a community that never had town lines of its own. Those are two different fence jobs: Rome runs city lot lines, Lindale runs longer and less regular ones, and our fence company page covers how the material choice follows from that. Ownership between 49 and 57 percent
Ownership in Floyd runs 49.2 percent in Rome and 57.4 percent in Lindale, which is low. That makes it a thinner pergola county in proportional terms, and our work concentrates in the settled neighborhoods instead of spreading across the whole city.

Yes. Lindale is 24.5 road miles out and squarely inside the area we cover.
The house is from the sixties and the deck came with it. Is anything salvageable?
Occasionally the footings, rarely the frame. On Floyd County housing of that age we start from the assumption of a rebuild, and a look underneath usually settles it.
